Final Journal Assessment : Due by Email Tuesday, May 10th at 12:00 pm (Noon)

REMINDERS

  • Please remember to indicate which journal entry (or entries) you want me to read at the end of this form.
  • Along with this form be sure to also submit, your featured journal entry (or entries) as well as documentation of your whole physical journal (if you have not already shown me your physical journal during office hours).

  • What connections do you notice emerging across your journal entries?
  • As you reflect on your entries, do you find any contradictions, corrections, reversals, or otherwise shifts in your perspective or reasoning between one entry and another? Or even within one entry?
  • Compare your first entry, your 6th entry, and your last entry. Are there similarities to the types of questions and topics you’re focusing on? Do you notice any differences or changes in what and/or how you’re observing and thinking through your observations?
  • Is there content that you wish you had focused on and/or explored further in your journal entries?

Reflecting on Form

  • Describe the medium and form of your journal at this point of the semester (i.e. blog site, scrap book, diary, three binder with document inserts).
  • How has the materiality of your journal changed since the first half of the semester? Does any aspect of it look different; feel different; sound different; smell different; and/or taste different?
  • What if any changes did you intentionally make about the medium and/or form of your journal in the second half of the semester and why?
  • How does the physical form of your journal affect your experience of thinking and writing in your journal?
  • How does your current form bring together your various entries in ways that another form wouldn’t?

Reflection on Process and Experience

  • When (times/days) do you journal? Where do you journal? How long do you spend on your journal? Do you edit and/or revise your entries?
  • Have you developed any habits and/or rituals around the process of journaling over the course of the semester? Elaborate.
  • What types of non-word based journal contributions have you included in your journal (i.e. doodles, sound clips, photos, etc.)?
  • How would you describe the ways in which your experience of, and/or feelings about, the journal assignment have developed over the course of the semester? Has your physical, mental, emotional experience with the journal assignment changed in any way since the first half of the semester?
  • Which journal entry (or two) did you most enjoy doing ? Why?
  • What about your journaling process, content, form, reflection, and/or experience are you most proud of this semester? And why?

Reflecting Forward

  • What ideas, questions, topics, etc. in the content of your journal entries would you like to continue exploring either academically or personally after the semester is over?
  • What are two small (focused!) and concrete ways you can continue to explore one or more of these aspects after the semester is over?
  • What about the process (i.e. the performance of journaling; the material experience of journaling, the sociality of reflection, etc.) would you like to continue beyond this semester?
  • What are two small (focused!) and concrete ways you can continue this part of the journaling process after the semester ends?
  • As you reflect on your various journal content as well as the experience of journaling and journal reflection this semester, what have you learned (or what might you be learning) about yourself AS A THINKER?
  • As you reflect on your various journal content as well as the experience of journaling and journal reflection this semester, what have you learned (or what might you be learning) about yourself AS AN ARTIST?
  • As you reflect on your various journal content as well as the experience of journaling and journal reflection this semester, what have you learned (or what might you be learning) about yourself AS A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER?
