Hi! I have had many exciting updates since my last post!
First and most important is that I officially started classes, so I have become pretty settled into a routine in Prague! I am taking four classes this semester and they include Gender and Culture, Social Changes after 1989, Czech and Central European History, and Jewish History in Central and Eastern Europe. All of my classes focus on topics through the lens of Eastern and Central Europe, which has been very interesting and new to me. There are about 16 students in each of my classes which include people from my program, students from other American programs, and ERASMUS students, which are exchange students from within the EU. Each of my classes meets twice a week, and we do not have classes on Fridays. It has been wonderful getting to know people from other programs and what their experiences have been like. On the weekends, I have been doing a mix of traveling and staying in Prague! So far I have traveled to Berlin and Barcelona, Dublin, and Paris, and have plans to travel to Budapest later this month.
I also was able to take a day trip within the Czech Republic to a city known as Cesky Krumlov. It has a beautiful castle that has amazing views of the river and the city!
It was amazing being able to visit another part of the country and continue to learn more about the place I am calling home for the semester. It has also been very fun being able to visit BC friends in other cities and having them here as well! I also was fortunate enough to have my family come visit, and so I was able to show them around my favorite parts of the city, as well as exploring new places I had not been to yet! For example, I walk by the National Museum almost every day on my way to my favorite study cafe, and yet I had never been inside until recently. It was amazing being able to see Prague through the eyes of people who have never been here before, and it made me appreciate a lot of the smaller details of things I take for granted because I see them everyday! Exploring parts of Prague, especially as the weather gets nicer and the city opens up more, has made staying here on weekends, and even during the week, so much more fun. Prague is known for having many markets, and so my friends and I love to go visit them on weekends, where we can get anything from groceries and food to jewelry and clothes. I especially love to pick up fresh flowers as it really livens up my dorm room. Starting this weekend, the Easter markets all throughout Prague open up for the next month all around the city, and I am super excited to explore those! As it gets warmer, many tourists from around the world come to see Prague, and so it is much easier to visit the markets and other touristy spots during the week, so you can fully experience it!
