Grubbs’ ruthenium metathesis catalysts are widely used catalysts in organic synthesis because of their stability, selectivity, and functional group tolerance. Recent efforts by our lab have been geared toward expanding the catalysts to promote other non-metathesis transformations and applying them to tandem processes. This process, known as tandem catalysis, offers a significant advantage over multiple single step processes because of its potential to reduce the amount of solvent, time and material associated with each reaction and purification. Shown below are some recent examples of tandem olefin metathesis reactions that we have reported.
