As we wrap up the month of June and look ahead to fall, this edition brings you essential updates on Canvas site preparation for Fall 2025 and exciting summer workshop opportunities. Whether you’re planning ahead for your courses or looking to enhance your AI literacy this summer, we’ve got you covered with practical resources and learning opportunities.

Fall 2025 Canvas Sites are Ready

Your Canvas sites for Fall 2025 are now live! Here are some resources to help you get started:

  • Importing Old Sites: If you’re reusing materials, follow these steps to import content from previous courses seamlessly.
  • Law School Design Templates: Utilize the pre-designed law school templates for a professional look. Learn more about using these templates here.
  • New Semester Quickstart: For other tips, tricks, and guides for getting up and running with your fresh Canvas sites, review this resource on the Ed Tech Blog.

Summer AI Workshop Series – Overview & Details

This summer, Kyle Fidalgo, Academic Technologist at BC Law, is offering three focused workshops designed to help faculty and staff engage more thoughtfully with generative AI.Β Whether you’re figuring out where you stand on AI use in the classroom or looking for ways to collaborate with these tools more effectively, each session is designed to be practical, reflective, and grounded in the everyday work of teaching and learning.

These aren’t about adopting AI wholesale or chasing trends, they’re about building confidence, asking better questions, and making intentional choices that align with your goals as BC community members and beyond.


Workshop Logistics

Format Options:

  • Virtual: Zoom Link
  • In-Person: Law Library Room 300

What You Can Expect:

  • Low-stakes learning: Safe space for hands-on exploration, no expertise required.
  • Context-first approach: Learn how to provide better input for more useful AI output.
  • Iterative mindset: Learn to use AI as a conversational tool and collaborative partner.
  • Collaborative framing: Use AI to enhance, not replace, your voice and judgment.

These sessions are built on a simple idea: with the right mindset and a few key skills, AI can be a thoughtful partner in the work you already care about.

Workshop 1: AI Policy Considerations for Your Classroom

Move from uncertainty to clarity. This session is about shaping a course-level AI policy that supports your educational goals and helps students understand the boundaries and possibilities of using these tools.

You’ll leave with:

  • A clearer position on how, if at all, AI fits into your course
  • Policy templates you can tailor and use
  • Strategies for attribution and transparency
  • Practical ways to communicate expectations to students

Workshop 2: Effective Communication and Collaboration with AI

Move beyond technical definitions and into practical applications. This session builds the muscle of intentional AI interaction, whether for brainstorming, drafting, or decision support.

We’ll cover:

  • Examples from teaching, writing, and administrative work
  • When to collaborate vs. when to step away
  • How to build and reuse custom assistants for repetitive tasks

Workshop 3: Tool Spotlight – Google Gemini for BC Users

Take a guided tour of Google Gemini’s most useful features for academic work. We’ll explore what’s already available through your BC account and how to apply it to your own teaching or support workflows.

What we’ll explore:

  • Setting up and using Gems (custom assistants)
  • Using the Canvas feature for collaborative AI work
  • Research, writing, and productivity features
  • Real-world scenarios from the BC context
