Editor Guidelines

Outlined below are guidelines to ensure blog posts meet the approved standards for content, grammar and style, and formatting.

Guidelines

  Content

  • Responsibility for making sure things stay within “reasonable” bounds (i.e., not racist, not xenophobic).
  • Raise concerns regarding content drift of significant problems if necessary. 

Spelling & Grammar

  • Line editing for obvious spelling & grammar mistakes.
  • If in doubt, check the Chicago 17th Edition guide. 

Basic Fact Checking

  • Read for an eye toward accuracy, but editors are not expected to verify every pieces of information. Do check things that seem off as typos are easy to make. 

Formatting

  • Ensure the text is is between 1000-1500 words.
  • Check for works cited/recommended reading.
  • Verify image citations and copyright adherence. If there are questions, contact Bee or BC Libraries’ Scholarly Communication Librarian.
