Set in Miami during the height of the crack epidemic, Moonlight tells the story of Little, Chiron, and Black in its three acts. Three different facets of the story of the same black man, struggling to keep and find his identity in a society that rejects who he is. The legacy of the film is unquestionable, as a landmark piece of progressive filmmaking which swept numerous awards including the Academy Awards’ Best Picture in 2017. But more important than accolades, Moonlight succeeds because it’s more than just a story, as it seeks out to tell stories within stories by using masterful color, framing, acting, and writing.
The film is available through Netflix, probably in BC’s library, and I will personally pirate it for you if you need. If you f*ck with this movie already, hmu and let’s share recommendations.
