It has been one month since I decided to do monthly check-ins with contact lens waste in my course contract. In the first photo included below, it shows my collected plastic containers from February (since I was collecting these for recycling at my optometrist office, as they collect them for reuse/ recycling). The second photo includes my contact containers collected from February and since the contract, approximately 2 months (a week or so is missing due to Spring Break and other trips home). Since I use daily contact lenses, I have two small plastic containers that hold my contacts that I use (and in the past disposed of), which generates a lot of plastic waste. Though I had been collecting these in the past, it always surprised me how much waste it comes out to be. My optometrist office will collect this waste and will recycle or reuse these in some way, though I am not sure of the details of this (but I believe some of these contact lens companies have some sort of reusable waste or recycling policy).
