The pilgrimage was the culmination of two years of formation in the novitiate. On an early midwinter morning, each of my novitiate group left home with no money but only the trust in the Lord. “Yahweh-yireh (God will provide)” was our pilgrimage motto that year. We walked over 100 miles for seven days, asking for food and shelter. One day I had to look for a place to sleep until midnight, and another day, I had to walk through the snow storm. Sometimes, I felt scared and agitated, but God eventually provided everything I needed through the people I encountered on the journey. When each of us returned from our own pilgrimage and shared experiences of poverty and humility, we all gave thanks to God for everything He did for us.
