Pilgrimage Course
The Camino de Santiago was a lifetime of experiences packed into fourteen days. Never in my life had I felt so physically weak, yet never had I felt God closer to my heart. With a total of 24 blisters on both of my feet, I limped 217 miles across northern Spain with 9 other Boston College students as we journeyed to the city of Santiago de Compostela. Santiago was the end we had in mind while we walked; Santiago was our Promised Land, our beatific vision. However, through the repetition of walking, a mindfulness and rhythm was bestowed upon us, allowing a perfect detachment from focusing on this end to shift our attention on finding joy in the means of walking. Through this pilgrimage, it was realized that the best has always yet to come. It is not about the pursuit of happiness, but rather the happiness of the pursuit.
