In addition to opening the Thomas P. O’Neill, Jr. Library in 1984, Fr. Monan oversaw the acquisition of the Newton campus and the construction of a number of new campus buildings and the renovation of existing ones. Robsham Theater, the Law Library, and numerous student dormitories were among the new structures he saw to completion. Bapst Library changed from Boston College’s main research hub into one of the University’s branch libraries that also included expansive study space and special collections. The physical landscape of Boston College today is by and large the product of Monan’s efforts.
