Keynote Talk
Jocelyn Bell Burnell (bio)
Plenary Talk I: Qubits and me: balancing physics and life
Mallika Randeria (bio)
Abstract: In this talk, I will share my journey balancing a career in physics with family and life outside of work. I will give an introduction to quantum computing with superconducting qubits, my current focus as a researcher at Lincoln Laboratory. My excitement for how the quantum world can come alive has been shaped by my experiences working as an experimentalist in many different groups. I welcome an open discussion of challenges and insights that can enable each of us to make fulfilling and empowering career choices.
Plenary Talk II: Journey through the particles
Zeynep Demiragli (bio)
Abstract: This talk is a personal reflection on my journey as an experimental particle physicist, where I discuss the choices, decisions, and opportunities that shaped my path while balancing a career in science with family life. I’ll focus on the exciting field of experimental particle physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and share insights into the challenges and successes encountered while exploring the mysteries of the subatomic world.
Plenary Talk III: New physics from strong driving
Anushya Chandran (bio)
Abstract: In this talk, I will show that strong driving brings excitement into the classical and quantum world. We will see how driving a few classical and quantum degrees of freedom creates new potential minima, sets up energy currents, and leads to chaos. Going from few to many results in novel non-equilibrium phases of matter, a current frontier in quantum physics. I will also share my physics journey and describe attitudes that I’ve found to help with success in the academy. I look forward to active discussion and conversation on these and other topics.
Plenary Talk IV: Reaching for the best of both science and life
Ling Wang (bio)
Abstract: I will walk you through the story of my passion for science that leads to my career choices, discuss the roles physicists play in generating new medicine, as well as my journey on generating machine learning methods to help with biological discoveries and developing a new clinical trial design to address challenges of combination therapy development. In the meantime, I will share my tale of raising a family while pursing career aspirations.
