Assessment Details
Academic Year: 2020-2021 Level: Graduate
Campus Department: Student Affairs [UG and Grad]
Program Type: Co-Curricular Program [UG and Grad]
Program Name: GPS Connections
Description of Data Collection:
A survey is administered at the end of the retreat. Survey measures:
-Student’s ability to name the Three Be’s of Jesuit Education
-Student’s ability to list the three approaches to discernment
-Student’s reasons for attending the retreat
-Student’s perceptions of the effectiveness of journaling time on the retreat
-The student’s satisfaction with the overall program including the quality of talks and speeches, the quality of the retreat space, and the value in getting away from campus
Review Process:
The OGSL staff collect and review the data. The Graduate Assistant in charge of retreat is the lead on survey collection.
Resulting Program Changes:
In previous years, students have really enjoyed the small groups, but also wanted to meet people outside of their groups. Using Zoom allowed us to mix up the groups often, and with the program being weekly over the course of the semester, they had more time with their their peers than usual. Here are some highlights: 87% of students signed up for GPS to meet their peers, 71% of students said the program allowed them to connect with their peers, 100% felt the length and time of GPS was ‘just right’ and 100% were interested in attending informal reunions. As in previous years, GPS continues to meet its learning outcomes. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic we had to make the switch to the virtual environment, and emphasized students using the program to form connections with their peers and the BC community. Based on our evidence from the 2020 program, our learning outcomes were met by students, but we know the power of holding this retreat in person so are planning to do so for the 2021 retreat in November.
