Campus Department: Student Affairs [UG and Grad]

Program Type: Co-Curricular Program [UG and Grad]

Description of Data Collection:

Residential Life created a committee to research the expansion through mixed methods including focus groups and surveys

Review Process:

The Residential Life Assessment Committee collected and analyzed the data in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Residential Leadership and Learning and the Graduate Assistant for Living and Learning Communities.

Resulting Program Changes:

1. The MLE RA is a critical aspect to community building; therefore, initial trainings should focus on building skills that will foster a positive and engaging MLE community
2. 40% of the survey respondents were not aware that the MLE community existed for their first year of housing
3. Focus group participants identified expanding into the sophomore year can allow the opportunity for the MLE program to (a) bring campus partners to the floor to talk about academic/ career choices, (b) invite upperclassmen to the floor to reflect on their sophomore year and the lessons they learned, and (c) have residents learn more about the other identities within the AHANA acronym.

Due to COVID restrictions, many of the recommendations including the addition of signature events and training were unable to be executed as planned during the 2020-2021 academic year. We plan to role those changes out for the 2022-2023 academic year and assess during spring 2023.
