Description of Data Collection:

Assessment of student attainment of program student learning outcomes (PSLOs) will be conducted by evaluating assessment artifacts in the program’s required courses where it has been determined that students will attain proficiency in the PSLOs.

Review Process:

In the Spring of 2021, the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and a faculty member revised the list of required courses in the program, the program’s student learning outcomes (PSLOs) and the course student learning outcomes of most of the courses required in the program. The new courses and the corresponding learning outcomes were mapped to the new PSLOs to ensure that the required courses in the program align to the new PSLOs. Faculty will be convened for discussions around course student learning outcomes (CSLOs)-PSLO alignment and faculty will be asked to identify assessment artifacts they employ in their courses which may be used to assess PSLOs for the program assessment project.

The planned program assessment project will consist of assessment artifacts identified by faculty for assessment of the PSLOs. These will be collected and cleared of all identifying information. Faculty who participate in this project will develop a rubric for the PSLO assessment. They will be required to attend a norming session on the application of the rubric before engaging in the assessment of the artifacts. Subsequently, faculty will assess the artifacts individually and will convene thereafter to share and discuss the results of the assessments, the data gathered and its interpretation in order to draw conclusions about the program’s efficacy. Plans for improvements or changes to the program as a result from this discussion will also be determined. It is expected that there will be documentation reporting on every stage of the program assessment project.
