Description of Data Collection:

Assessment of student attainment of program student learning outcomes (PSLOs) will be evaluated in the Integrative Capstone. Assessment of the concentration student learning outcomes will be done by evaluating assessments in concentration courses where it has been determined that students will attain proficiency in the concentration student learning outcomes.


Review Process:

Program assessment activities will take place annually. New courses are still being developed for this program. The Associate Dean is reviewing the program student learning outcomes to incorporate learning outcomes from the newly developed courses and map the courses to the Program Student Learning outcomes (PSLOs). The Integrative Capstone course will be developed by a faculty member in consultation with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and with input from faculty who teach courses required in the ALA major. Assessment for this course will be developed with the goal to be used in the assessment of the ALA major PSLOs. The program assessment project will consist of an evaluation by a group of faculty of the summative assessment in the Integrative Capstone course. Summative assessment artifacts will be collected and cleared of all identifying information. Faculty who participate in this project will develop a rubric for the ALA PSLO assessment. They will be required to attend a norming session on the application of the rubric before engaging in the assessment of the artifacts. Subsequently, faculty will assess the artifacts individually and will convene thereafter to share and discuss the results of the assessments, the data gathered and its interpretation in order to draw conclusions about the student’s attainment of the PSLOs and the program’s efficacy. Plans for improvements or changes to the program as a result from this discussion will also be determined. It is expected that there will be documentation reporting on every stage of the program assessment project.

Concentration student learning outcomes will need to be revised. Faculty will map the concentration courses to the new concentration SLOs in order to ascertain how well the courses in the concentration align to the concentration SLOs. Faculty will be convened for these discussions around course student learning outcomes (CSLOs)-concentration SLO alignment which will include an analysis of how the CSLOs align to the concentration SLOs. It is expected that some CSLOs may need to be revised. During these convenings, faculty will also be asked to identify assessment artifacts they employ in their courses which may be used to assess the concentration SLOs for the program assessment project.
The planned concentration assessment project will consist of assessment artifacts identified by faculty for assessment of the concentration SLOs. These will be collected and cleared of all identifying information. Faculty who participate in this project will develop a rubric for the concentration SLO assessment. They will be required to attend a norming session on the application of the rubric before engaging in the assessment of the artifacts. Subsequently, faculty will assess the artifacts individually and will convene thereafter to share and discuss the results of the assessments, the data gathered and its interpretation in order to draw conclusions about student attainment of the concentration SLOs . Plans for improvements or changes to the concentration as a result from this discussion will also be determined. It is expected that there will be documentation reporting on every stage of the concentration assessment project.
