Description of Data Collection:
Exit interviews with all APHD alumni provide self-reports of the extent to which learning outcome goals were achieved.
Review Process:
Program faculty discuss exit survey results, annually.
Resulting Program Changes:
In response to our analysis of student exit survey results as well as the changing career landscape, we conducted a significant revamping of the curriculum. A sub-committee of faculty members that represented different areas of expertise (e.g., counseling, cognitive development, organizational psychology, and positive youth development) developed a new set of guidelines for the major. A primary goal of the curriculum redesign was to ensure more systematic and comprehensive opportunities for students to meet the APA Undergraduate Psychology learning goals as set forth in the APA Guidelines. A secondary goal was to expand the course offerings to prepare students for a greater range of career trajectories while simultaneously reducing redundancy across courses. The most noteworthy changes are as follows:
• A statistics course was added as one of the core requirements in order to provide greater training in quantitative reasoning.
• A practicum placement course was added as one of the core requirements to ensure that all students have a mentored opportunity to connect coursework to applied settings.
• Four distinct focus areas were developed, each with a unique set of required courses: Human Services and Health Sciences, Organization Studies and Human Capital, Policy, Advocacy, and Community Change, and Science of Learning.
• A series of new courses were developed and added to the course offerings, including: Health Psychology, Psychology of Work, and Translating Science of Learning into Practice.
