Clarke has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palgrave.com\/gp\/book\/9789811596230\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>A Chinese Jesuit Catechism:\u00a0Giulio Aleni&#8217;s Four Character Classic \u56db\u5b57\u7d93<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, serving as the first scholarly study of the famous Jesuit Chinese children&#8217;s primer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A professor of Chinese history at\u00a0Whitworth University, Clarke provides what the publisher Palgrave notes are &#8220;masterful translations of both Wang Yinglin&#8217;s (1551\u20131602) hallowed Confucian Three Character Classic and Aleni&#8217;s Chinese catechism that was published during the Qing (1644\u20131911).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Palgrave continues that &#8220;Clark&#8217;s careful reading of the\u00a0<i>Four Character Classic<\/i>\u00a0provides new insights into an area of the Jesuit mission in early modern China that has so far been given little attention, the education of children.
