{"id":4091,"date":"2018-01-16T18:28:34","date_gmt":"2018-01-16T18:28:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.bc.edu\/jesuitportal-recovery\/?page_id=4091"},"modified":"2019-01-04T14:04:35","modified_gmt":"2019-01-04T14:04:35","slug":"january-2018-new-essays-on-claudio-acquaviva","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.bc.edu\/jesuitportal-recovery\/?page_id=4091","title":{"rendered":"January 2018: New Essays on Claudio Acquaviva"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pierre-Antoine Fabre and Flavio Rurale have edited a new collection of essays on Claudio Acquaviva, the long-serving Superior General of the Society of Jesus.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jesuitsources.bc.edu\/the-acquaviva-project-claudio-acquavivas-generalate-1581-1615-and-the-emergence-of-modern-catholicism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>The Acquaviva Project: Claudio Acquaviva&#8217;s Generalate (1581\u20141615) and the Emergence of Modern Catholicism<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0examines both the expansion of Jesuit works and &#8220;the consolidation of the Jesuit institute.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This volume addresses a significant historiographical gap&#8211;one that exists, according to the Institute of Jesuit Sources, because of &#8220;<span class=\"showMoreLessContentElement\">the complexity of the subject at hand: the end of the sixteenth century was a period in which the Society expanded on a global level, far beyond the order&#8217;s Roman and European boundaries.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"showMoreLessContentElement\">In addition to Fabre and Rurale, contributors to <em>The Acquaviva Project<\/em> include:\u00a0<\/span>Patrick Goujon; Guido Mongini; Silvia Mostaccio; Guillermo Wilde; Margherita Trento; Michela Catto; Thomas McCoog, SJ; Claudio Ferlan; Ariane Boltanksi; Aliocha Maldavsky; Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ednez Mill\u00e1n; Esther Jim\u00e9nez Pablo; Cristiano Casalini; Francesco Mattei; Federica Favino; Giovanna Zanlonghi; Ralph Dekoninck; Franco Motta; and Santo Burgio.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The essays by the scholars fall into five broad categories: shaping Jesuit identity;
