{"id":3035,"date":"2017-12-13T15:54:36","date_gmt":"2017-12-13T15:54:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.bc.edu\/jesuitportal-recovery\/?page_id=3035"},"modified":"2019-10-31T17:26:42","modified_gmt":"2019-10-31T17:26:42","slug":"december-2017-new-graduate-courses-in-jesuit-studies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.bc.edu\/jesuitportal-recovery\/?page_id=3035","title":{"rendered":"December 2017: New Graduate Courses in Jesuit Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies is now accepting applications for a three-credit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bc.edu\/content\/bc-web\/centers\/iajs\/programs\/certificate-in-jesuit-studies-\/course-descriptions.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>European immersion course<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in the summer of 2018, the first of new graduate courses offered in the field of Jesuit Studies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>These courses\u00a0offered through the expanded\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/wMxPNn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Certificate in Jesuit Studies<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0program present unique scholarly opportunities for participants to develop\u00a0a deep, informed understanding of the spirituality, history, pedagogy, and leadership methods of the Society of Jesus and its apostolates.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The three-credit immersion course examines the historical and spiritual contexts for the foundation of the Society of Jesus. It\u00a0begins with preliminary online readings and discussions and continues in July with 13 days of\u00a0informed, scholarly direction through Spain and Italy. Participants immerse themselves in the key places that became the roots of the Society of Jesus and study a variety of primary sources to examine how and why the early Jesuits formed and governed their new religious order. A travel reader, daily presentations and writing assignments, and regular seminars foster thoughtful reflections on the historical and spiritual importance of each day\u2019s theme. An\u00a0annotated itinerary\u00a0for our time in Europe and other course details can be found on the Institute\u2019s website.\u00a0Daily reflections\u00a0from last year\u2019s participants are also\u00a0available online.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Participants earning at least 15 credits will receive a Certificate in Jesuit Studies from Boston College.
